The relationship between patient safety climate and occupational safety climate in healthcare—a multi-level investigation.

This study documents a link between perceived safety culture and health care staff perception of workplace safety. The investigators surveyed more than 2000 nurses and physicians at 150 hospitals and clinics in Sweden, using the AHRQ Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture and a validated occupational safety survey. Higher perceived safety culture was positively correlated with improved perception of workplace safety, indicating that the same organizational processes may augment safety for both patients and staff.
